Commissions

silver shark bespoke ring

Hi I hope you are not too wet in this terrible rainy weather we have been having?! I don’t know about you but I am getting very fed up with it! Spring is my favourite time of year but this must have been the wettest one ever.

I haven’t been in my studio as much as I would have liked recently as I have been suffering from ill health but touch wood I am on the mend and have been able to make some lovely commissions of silver jewellery pieces.

The piece above is a silver shark ring that I made as a 16th birthday present for a big shark fan! She was delighted with the ring and it was a lot of fun to make

The earrings below were also a birthday present for a lovely client of mine who loves whales, the whale tails are little studs

Another recent commission was to take stones from a gold ring and set them into a bespoke silver ring, it was a long tricky process but I love the results. My client wanted a more chunky look

Silver Jewellery

Hi If you have been following me on Instagram you will see that I have been making silver Jewellery.

It’s becoming a bit of a passion, especially as it combines my love of beachcombing.

One of the processes is using Art Clay Silver it is a precious metal clay which looks and feels like ordinary sculpting or porcelain clay with fine particles of pure silver mixed with a non-toxic organic binder. When fired the binder burns out leaving a fine silver piece, which can be hallmarked as fine silver.

I start off by making a mould out of moulding compound, I press a shell into the mould and leave it to dry.

Then I take the silver art clay and place it in the mould, this is then left to dry for 24hrs

The next part is the tricky bit, I fire the clay by using a hand torch which needs to be held for 3 mins at the right temperature too hot and it melts too cold and it doesn’t dry.

To finish off I file and polish the piece and add to a chain or even a ring

I used Sea weed for this piece I just love the texture of it

its very unique and what I love is that each piece has been formed by nature

The Pilchard Press Studio

I’ve been a bit behind with writing my Journal so the exciting news of my new art Studio which I opened last summer is a bit old. The Studio is situated right in the harbour with amazing views of the beach and sea. It used to be a fish cellar where the fishermen would store their catch, make their withy pots and press the pilchards for oil. I couldn’t think of a better location

Having been in the Studio now through the summer and winter I’ve experienced all the the different weather conditions and with my trusty heater I don’t get cold in the winter (well not freezing!)

You can find in my studio all my current paintings, prints and cards. Also anything new I am working on including driftwood/ shell wreaths or wall hangings.

It has been really lovely meeting lots of people who follow my instagram account as well as new customers, being able to discuss commissions in person has ben very useful.

It is so inspiring in my little studio with the sound of the waves and sea gulls on my door step, I still have to pinch myself that I am here doing the things that I love.

Please come and say hello if you are visiting Port Isaac

Showroom

View my work in the flesh

Lots has been going on behind the scenes not only have I been painting lots of commissions I have also been working with my husband Guy on opening our Interior design studio in Wadebridge. We started our interior design business Beau Sala last year after working in the industry for 27 years we wanted to have our own business. Initially we were trying to work from my art studio but it wasn’t big enough for both of us and all my art.

We were on the look out for office space to have our design studio and found the perfect space in Wadebridge that also has enough room for us to have a small retail area too. With big high white walls and a large floor to ceiling window it was also perfect to display my art.

So after six weeks of hard work we have opened the studio the shop is open weekly Thurs- Sat 10 till 4. As well as my art you can also purchase homewares or make an appointment to see us for an interior design project

The Beau Sala shop address is Unit 4, The Cedar Barns, Eddystone road, Wadebridge, Cornwall, PL27 7AL

Updates and exciting news

Updates on some of my latest commissions and some exciting news……

Hi

Its been a long time since I last posted lots of things going on at the moment what with our interior design Business Beau Sala and getting our new cairn terrier Puppy Wolf things have been a bit hectic.

I’ve still been fitting in my painting and had some wonderful commissions which are my favourite things to paint as its normally something that has lots of meaning. The fist one I painted was of a beautiful fishing boat Orcades II from our home village in Port Isaac it was a gift to the amazing fisherman from his family for his 70th birthday.

The Second commission was one of the largest paintings I have painted so far, It was a landscape of the very stunning Helford Village for a lovely couple who have very fond memories of many trips there including their honeymoon. The painting is hanging on their landing in their new home

The other thing my husband and I have been working on is signing a lease to a new design studio with a small showroom space. The design studio is for our interior design business that I mentioned before as working in the studio there was not enough space for us to work and for me to do my painting. As the new studio has some wall space I will be able to have my paintings on display to purchase which I am extremely excited about. The new premises is in Wadebridge Cornwall and I can’t wait for it to be opened, we plan on opening end of June beginning of July. So please watch this space and my Instagram account @viddycottage for news of the opening date it would be lovely to meet you.

Welcome

Welcome to my first blog post and a little bit about me

Hello…

This is my first blog post for Viddy Cottage and thought it was probably a good idea to tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Stacey and I have always been creative, ever since I was a little girl, you would find me drawing and painting (sometimes on the wall, much to my parents despair). Upon leaving school I went to college and studied graphic design and styling (window dressing in the old days) and from there I started work as a junior designer for a Interior design company. I fell in love with Interiors and have been working as a designer and creative director for 27 years.

My work has taken up a lot of my time and it has only been in the last few years that I found myself picking up my paint brushes and painting again. It has really helped with my stress and anxiety levels. My inspiration comes from Cornwall and being by the sea, especially Port Isaac, the most beautiful place in the world. I am self taught and I find that every time I paint I learn something new!

It was only with encouragement through some lovely people I’ve met through Instagram that I found the courage to set up this website and sell my art. I have started off with cards but will very shortly be selling my prints. Recently I was asked to do a few commissions which has been amazing and this is now added to my shop. I’ll do A5 and A4 sizes.

Please email me if you would like to discuss any commissions!
